The Lagos State Police have ordered a formal investigation into multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Senior Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.
The directive, issued by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, tasks the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, with questioning the cleric and summoning alleged victims and witnesses, even in the absence of formal complaints, The News Chronicle gathered .
The probe follows a surge of public outrage on social media after several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, accused Okafor of sexual and emotional misconduct. Reports indicate that the pastor stepped aside from his duties on New Year’s Day as the controversy gained momentum.
Recall that last Sunday, Okafor publicly apologized to Ogala during a church service, kneeling at the altar to admit mistakes and seek forgiveness. The apology came weeks after the pastor married a new wife, Pearl, on December 16, in a ceremony attended by prominent clerics.
Initially, the Lagos Police had refrained from acting, citing the absence of a formal complaint. CSP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command’s spokesperson, explained that police were unaware of any official petition despite the trending allegations.
However, after further inquiries and direct communication with CP Jimoh, the SCID has now been instructed to open a full investigation.
Ogala first made the allegations public on December 14 via Instagram, claiming a nine-year sexual relationship with Okafor that began in 2017.
She alleged he promised to marry her but later wed another woman, shared explicit images of her without consent, and caused emotional and financial distress. She further claimed Okafor attempted to pay her $10,000 to retract her accusations and blame a rival cleric.
Through her lawyers, Ogala is seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged threats, intimidation, and harassment following her public disclosures.
As the scandal unfolded, additional women including Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor have come forward, alleging sexual misconduct, manipulation, repeated infidelity, and physical abuse.
The SCID is now tasked with interviewing the pastor and alleged victims, gathering evidence, and determining the next steps in the investigation.
