Lagos Confirms Two Dead, 16 Rescued After Building Collapse

—

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that two people died while 16 others were rescued alive following the collapse of a two-storey building at Alakija on Old Ojo Road in Lagos.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this on Thursday, saying rescue operations were still ongoing at the scene.

According to Adeseye, six additional victims were pulled alive from the rubble, bringing the total number of rescued persons to 16.

She also confirmed that two bodies had been recovered from the collapsed structure.

“Emergency responders remain on the ground and are working tirelessly to account for everyone affected,” she said.

Adeseye added that efforts were also focused on securing the site to prevent further hazards, assuring residents that updates would be provided as rescue operations continued.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the building collapsed on Thursday at Alakija, triggering a coordinated response by firefighters, rescue teams and other emergency management agencies.
