Kwara Records Improved BECE Performance, Higher Female Enrolment

The Kwara State Government has released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), reflecting notable improvements in core subjects and increased participation, especially among female students.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the outcome underscores the impact of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s sustained investments in the state’s education sector.

According to the commissioner, enrolment for the BECE rose by 27 percent between 2019 and 2025, climbing from 45,761 candidates to 57,787. Female participation also recorded a marginal increase, moving from 47.89 percent to 48.33 percent within the same period.

“Between 2019 and 2025, the BECE has experienced sustained growth and gradual gains in equity,” Olohungbebe said. “In 2025 alone, enrolment grew from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787, while attendance improved in most subjects.”

He disclosed that performance in several core subjects showed measurable gains, with Mathematics recording a +2.23 percentage point increase, English +2.94, National Values +4.51, History +3.72, and Pre-Vocational Studies +3.33. Average scores in these subjects also rose, indicating that improvements were spread across performance levels, not just at the pass mark.

“These results show that more candidates are sitting for the examination and a larger share is achieving success. The system is trending in the right direction,” he noted.

The commissioner announced that students’ results will be available for collection from the Ministry of Education starting Thursday, September 11, 2025, at no cost.

He warned school principals against extorting students, stressing that “collection of results and scratch cards for checking is entirely free.”
