In the area close to Danialu, specifically within the Gaa Akanbi region of Kwara State, authorities have taken into custody an individual identified as Matthew, who is believed to be involved in a series of robberies.
It is alleged that Matthew has been engaging in multiple incidents of theft, making him a suspected serial robber.
The arrest unfolded in a rather dramatic fashion, involving an incident where Matthew’s mother, commonly referred to as Iya Joshua, reportedly fainted for approximately half an hour upon witnessing her son being subjected to physical punishment.
Allegedly, the suspect forcibly entered the residence of a local youth leader named Kabiru. Matthew accomplished this by damaging the window burglary proof while Kabiru was away at work.
A resident named Adeoye shared details, recounting how fortune turned against Matthew when Kabiru unexpectedly returned to retrieve a forgotten item.
As Kabiru raised an alarm for assistance while fleeing the house, Matthew reportedly brandished a knife, assaulting him in the process.
Attempting to evade capture, the suspect sought refuge in the ceiling, where he proceeded to stab three other youths who endeavored to apprehend him.
Despite a brief escape, Matthew was ultimately subdued near his residence, where an intense confrontation ensued, resulting in significant injuries and bloodshed.
A harrowing turn of events unfolded as there were intentions to set Matthew on fire, leading to his mother losing consciousness. However, the arrival of law enforcement prevented this escalation.
On Tuesday evening, Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
She stated that the suspect named Matthew is currently being held in custody and is undergoing investigation by the authorities to determine his involvement in the alleged series of robberies.
Additionally, it was mentioned that official charges are anticipated to be instituted once the ongoing investigative procedures reach their conclusion.
