Kogi State Government Warns of Demolishing Homes Belonging to Internet Fraudsters
State Security Adviser, Retired Commander, Jerry Omodara
The Kogi State Government has issued a stern warning that it will demolish houses occupied by internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo Boys.
This announcement was made by the State Security Adviser, retired Commander Jerry Omodara, during Monday’s edition of “State of Kogi,” a Radio Kogi audience participatory program.
Internet fraud is a type of cybercrime involving deception or fraudulent activities conducted through the internet.
This often includes hiding information or providing false information to trick victims into giving money, property, or inheritance.
Recently, the activities of such fraudsters have been on the rise in Kogi State, leading to numerous arrests by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) earlier this year.
Retired Commander Omodara emphasized the need for public cooperation in providing information that could help arrest these internet fraudsters.
He announced that security agencies would soon target hotels used by Yahoo Boys and that any hotel found to be involved would face appropriate sanctions.
He also cautioned landlords against renting their properties to Yahoo Boys, warning that such properties would be demolished.
According to Omodara, the government, in collaboration with security agencies, has identified houses built with proceeds from criminal activities and those harboring criminals. These structures will soon be torn down.
Additionally, Omodara mentioned that security agencies and local hunters have been instructed to arrest or shoot anyone found carrying arms in the forest.
The security adviser praised the efforts of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, in addressing insecurity issues.
He also called on companies and wealthy individuals to support the government by donating to the State Security Trust Fund.
Addressing the Bangana crisis in Omala Local Government Area, Commander Omodara assured the public that the government is actively managing the situation.
