Nigerian Afrobeats singer Kizz Daniel, real name Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, has revealed that his months-long absence from music this year was caused by the death of his mother, not preparations for a new album as many fans believed.
The singer made the disclosure on Friday, September 25, 2026, while replying to a fan on X. The fan, using the handle @VicroyDominion1, had written, “I guess album really made you busy you had to pause for a while.”
Kizz Daniel responded directly: “I paused for my Mom not an album… Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family… sorry I came late this year.”
The singer, known for hit songs including “Buga,” “Woju” and “Twe Twe,” had kept a low profile for much of the year. His silence led fans to speculate that he was working on new material. His statement put that speculation to rest and offered a personal explanation instead.
This is not the first loss Kizz Daniel has spoken about publicly. He lost his father in 2015 and one of his triplets in 2021. In a 2025 interview, he also revealed that his wife lost her mother in 2024, a loss he said influenced his song “Al-Jannah.”
Fans responded to his post with condolences. One user, @Segunthomas9, wrote, “May her soul rest in peace, mother’s love is the best.” Another, @mynameisnottobi, shared a personal message about fearing the loss of her own mother, telling the singer she understood the weight of what he was going through.
Kizz Daniel has not released further details about his mother, including her name or the cause of death. He has also not announced new music releases following the disclosure.
