Kerosene Prices Increase by 25% In a Single Year

In the past year, there has been a 25.18 percent increase in the price of kerosene and a 1.7% increase in the price of cooking gas.

In its October 2023 report on household kerosene and cooking gas, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reports that the average retail price per liter of household kerosene (HHK) paid by consumers in October 2023 increased from N1,041.05 in October 2022 to N1,303.16, indicating a year-over-year increase of 25.18 percent.

On a month-over-month basis, nevertheless, the gain from N1,299.03 in September increased by 0.32 percent.
The average retail price of refueling a 5 kg cylinder with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly referred to as cooking gas, climbed from N4,483.75 in October 2022 to N4,562.51 in October 2023, suggesting a 1.7% annual increase.

However, the price grew month over month, from N4,189.96 in September to N4,562.51 in October—an increase of 8.89%.

According to state profile research, Adamawa had the highest average price per liter of household kerosene in October 2023 at N1,676.19. Abia came in second with N1,555.21 and Abuja third with N1,541.67.
Kwara had the lowest price, N1,034.29, followed by Kebbi (N1,133.33) and Enugu (N1,134.52).

Refilling a 5-kg LPG cylinder cost N5,181.43, the most in Kano, followed by N5,142.86 in Adamawa and N5,093.75 in Ogun. Ebonyi had the lowest average cost, N3,971.43, followed by N4,000 in Osun and N4,025 in Edo.
