Kenyan presidential candidate Patrick Osoi has urged Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote not to rush to commence operations at his refinery, claiming that the businessman would return to Nigeria after he becomes Kenya’s president next year.
Osoi made the statement in a video shared by AM Media, in which he directly addressed Dangote and suggested that his anticipated presidency would influence the billionaire’s business interests in Kenya.
“I want to tell Aliko Dangote, please don’t rush to start the refinery because, when I’m sworn in as President of Kenya next year, you will be heading back to Nigeria,” Osoi said.
His remarks appear to reference Dangote’s multibillion-dollar refinery project in Nigeria and the possibility of the businessman expanding his energy-related interests into Kenya.
However, Osoi did not provide details to substantiate his claim or explain how his anticipated presidency would affect Dangote’s business operations.
There is also no indication from the statement that Dangote intends to relocate his business interests from Kenya or that any agreement exists between the two men.
Osoi’s comments have drawn attention to the intersection of politics and business, particularly the potential implications of political promises for major investments in Africa’s energy sector.
His assertion remains a political statement, and no evidence has been presented to establish that Dangote plans to move his operations to Kenya.
