Youth-led protests have erupted across Kenya as anger over soaring fuel prices spills onto the streets, deepening an already tense cost-of-living crisis.
The News Chronicle gathered that the demonstrations broke out Tuesday, April 21, in Nairobi and other regions, driven largely by young people rallying online under the hashtag #RejectFuelPrices.
In the capital, a heavy security presence underscored the government’s readiness for unrest.
Authorities had earlier declared the protests “unlawful,” citing a lack of formal notification raising fears of clashes.
Those tensions quickly materialized as protesters converged on the city centre and nearby areas, with reports of arrests and police moving to break up crowds.
