The Keffi Local Government Council of Nasarawa State has commenced the distribution of cash palliatives to vulnerable residents as part of measures to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic hardship.
The intervention, being implemented under the administration of the Executive Chairman of the council, Dr Idris Ahmad Damagani, is targeted at providing immediate financial relief to residents and supporting households facing economic difficulties.
The council said the initiative was designed to complement other interventions aimed at improving the welfare of people at the grassroots.
Damagani, who has consistently emphasised people-oriented governance since assuming office, said the council remained committed to implementing programmes that would directly impact the lives of residents.
The cash support is expected to assist beneficiaries with basic household needs amid rising living costs and the pressure on families to meet their daily financial obligations.
The initiative is also part of the council’s broader efforts to ensure that government resources are channelled towards programmes with direct benefits to the people.
Keffi Local Government had earlier outlined a people-focused development agenda in its 2026 budget proposal, with significant allocations to education, health, security, social contributions and other sectors. The council proposed a total budget of N9.63 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, with social contributions allocated N870.3 million.
The council’s recent interventions have also included collaboration with the Nasarawa State Government on projects aimed at improving access to essential services in Keffi communities. In 2025, the council participated in the inauguration of solar-powered boreholes across communities in the area.
The latest cash palliative underscores the council’s emphasis on grassroots intervention, particularly at a time when many households are struggling with increased costs of food and other essential commodities.
Residents and community stakeholders are expected to continue benefiting from the council’s welfare and development programmes as the administration seeks to strengthen its support for vulnerable groups across Keffi Local Government Area.
