Kebbi State Governor pledges death penalty for bandit informants

The Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris issued a stern warning on Saturday to those aiding bandits in the state, stating that he would sign the death warrant of anyone convicted for providing information to them.

His declaration came during a visit to Tudun Bichi in Wasagu Chiefdom of Danko-Wasagu local government area, where he expressed condolences to the community for enduring repeated attacks by bandits.
Governor Idris emphasized his zero-tolerance stance towards informants collaborating with criminals for monetary gain, stressing that such actions betray societal norms and religious principles.
“The activities of informants defy all norms and religious doctrines. Just for a pittance, some miscreants will provide valuable information to bandits to perpetrate mayhem against their own people.”
“I will never condone or be lenient with such unscrupulous persons.”
He vowed not to show leniency towards such individuals, asserting that convicted informants would face swift justice, with him personally signing their death warrants.
“Let it be known to the informants that whoever is convicted for volunteering information to bandits leading to the killing of innocent souls, I will sign his death warrant instantly.”
Assuring continued support for security agencies, the governor pledged to prioritize logistical and welfare needs, ensuring they are well-equipped for combat operations.
Additionally, he acknowledged the deteriorating state of infrastructure, promptly accepting a request for the rehabilitation of a crucial three-kilometer road connecting Tudun Bichi with Wasagu, which had become impassable due to a collapsed bridge.
In response, the Village Head of Tudun Bichi, Malam Muhammad Mika’ilu, expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit, noting that he was the first chief executive of the state to visit the town.
This gesture underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by communities affected by insecurity and infrastructure decay.
