Kanye West Faces Lawsuit Over Treatment of Black Staff

Kanye West is facing allegations from a former security guard that he subjected Black employees to “less favorable treatment than their White counterparts.”

Benjamin Deshon Provo, who worked as a security guard for West at Dondo Academy since 2021, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles, saying he suffered emotional distress because of West’s actions.

Provo says West yelled at black employees and was fired because he wouldn’t cut his dreadlocks.

Provo refused to shave his head when West asked, citing his Muslim faith and that white staff were paid more than black staff.

Provo claimed West banned books about Black history at the academy, like ones about Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.

Another former employee, Cecilia Hailey, made a similar claim in a lawsuit from April 2023.

Provo is asking for damages for discrimination, a bad work environment, retaliation, labor code violations, and other issues.

West made a video a few months ago saying his family isn’t “Black but Indian.”
