Kano Raises Minimum Pension from N5,000 to N20,000 — NUP

The Kano State Government has increased the minimum pension for retirees in the state from N5,000 to N20,000, the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has said.

The state Chairman of the union, Malam Shuaib Musa-Jibrin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.

Musa-Jibrin said the increase had significantly improved pensioners’ welfare and restored retirees’ confidence in the state.

He said the present administration had also made progress in clearing outstanding retirement benefits inherited from previous administrations.

According to him, the government inherited a backlog of retirement benefits estimated at N48.6 billion and had so far settled about N32 billion.

“The governor promised to settle inherited backlog of gratuities and other retirement benefits, and we appreciate the efforts made so far,” he said.

The NUP chairman identified the regular payment of monthly pensions as another major achievement of the administration
