The Kaduna State Government has launched its 2026/2027 school enrolment campaign as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children and expand access to basic education across the state.
The campaign, organised by the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), began on Wednesday with a sensitisation walk in Kaduna.
During the exercise, government officials engaged parents, guardians and community members, urging them to enrol all school-age children.
The Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna State Ministry of Information and Culture, Iliya Duniya, described the campaign as a “war against illiteracy” aimed at reaching out-of-school children across the state.
Duniya said the state government had made education free for children and urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the initiative when registration begins.
He described education as the foundation of development, saying investment in children would help secure a better future for Kaduna State and Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, Ibrahim Musa, said education remained a powerful tool for empowering children regardless of their social or economic background.
Musa said public schools in Kaduna were free, accommodated religious education and provided children with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills.
He urged parents not to keep their children out of school, saying the administration was committed to ensuring that every child had equal access to education.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mubarak Muhammad, said the campaign was designed to encourage parents and guardians to register their children for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Muhammad said access to education was a right, not a privilege.
He disclosed that several children approached officials during the sensitisation exercise at Kaduna Central Market and expressed their willingness to return to school.
He said the children would be registered and enrolled as part of efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
Muhammad added that the state government had constructed more than 2,000 classrooms to accommodate increased enrolment in the new academic session.
He said the expansion of school infrastructure demonstrated Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to improving access to quality education across Kaduna State.
