A technology innovator from Kano State, Aminu Khalifa, popularly known as @inventorkhalifa on X, has developed AI-powered smart glasses designed to help people who are blind navigate their surroundings more safely and independently.
Unlike conventional smart glasses, the device combines artificial intelligence, sensors, and GPS technology to detect obstacles, identify objects, and provide users with information about their surroundings without relying solely on a walking cane or a human guide.
The glasses can also track the user’s location and, if the wearer becomes lost, send their location to a caregiver via WhatsApp or email.
Khalifa is now advancing the project by integrating AI and voice technology, enabling the glasses to communicate directly with users and provide real-time descriptions and summaries of their surroundings.
