The Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aliko Dangote Foundation to take over and manage the Aliko Dangote Skills Acquisition Centre for 20 years.
The agreement seeks to reposition the centre and expand its capacity to provide entrepreneurial and vocational training opportunities for youths across the state.
The governor’s spokesperson, Mr Sanusi Bature, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Kano.
Bature said the state government signed the agreement on Tuesday, with the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkareem Maude, representing the state.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation was represented by its Programme Manager (North), Alhaji Sanusi Abdulkadir, and Programme Support Officer, Mustapha Umar.
According to Bature, Gov. Abba Yusuf said the foundation’s involvement would bring significant development to the centre and strengthen its contribution to youth empowerment in Kano.
Yusuf said the foundation had the technical and managerial expertise required to transform the centre into one of Nigeria’s leading institutions for entrepreneurial and vocational training.
He added that the centre could also emerge as a major skills development institution in the West African sub-region.
The governor explained that the state government approved the management takeover following the State Executive Council’s decision to adopt best practices in vocational training and skills development.
Yusuf expressed confidence that Alhaji Aliko Dangote, whom he described as one of the sons of Kano, would deploy his expertise and resources to strengthen the skills and entrepreneurial capacity of the state’s growing youth population.
The governor said the partnership would help equip young people with practical skills, improve their employability and create more opportunities for entrepreneurship across the state.
