The Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has rolled out an extensive oversight initiative aimed at raising standards across secondary healthcare facilities, inaugurating two special management teams tasked with monitoring and evaluating hospital operations throughout the state.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the board’s spokesperson, Samira Sulaiman, the move is designed to deepen accountability, improve healthcare outcomes, and ensure strict compliance with professional medical practices.
The board explained that the exercise will also create an avenue for direct interaction with healthcare personnel, enabling authorities to identify operational bottlenecks and implement timely solutions.
Under the arrangement, Team A will be led by the Executive Secretary of the board and will comprise key officials, including directors overseeing administration, pharmacy, and laboratory services, alongside representatives of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and other professional groups.
“Team B will be headed by the Director of Medical Services, with members including the nursing leadership, Director of Accounts, and representatives from various health-related unions and associations.
“Both teams have been mandated to assess service quality, staff discipline, and workforce productivity across all secondary health institutions in the state.
“The teams are also expected to evaluate the functionality of medical equipment and infrastructure, and the availability of essential drugs and laboratory consumables,” it added.
The statement noted that beyond assessing healthcare delivery, the teams will inspect hospital environments to ensure cleanliness, monitor adherence to clinical and administrative procedures, and encourage a stronger patient-focused culture among health workers.
Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Mansur Mudi-Nagoda, described the exercise as a reflection of the board’s determination to entrench a culture of continuous improvement and responsive governance within the health sector.
“The board will continue to deploy effective mechanisms to ensure that government investments translate into improved services for all citizens.
“The teams are expected to submit comprehensive reports with actionable recommendations to the Executive Secretary after each supervisory visit to the health facilities,” the executive secretary said.
The newly inaugurated teams are expected to provide regular assessments and recommendations that will guide policy decisions and strengthen service delivery across Kano’s network of secondary healthcare institutions.
