Kaduna Police Detain Couple Over Teenager’s Mysterious Death

—

The Kaduna State Police Command has detained a couple over the death of a teenage boy following an alleged disciplinary incident in the Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna metropolis.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development on Monday, saying a full-scale investigation had been launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

According to Hassan, the incident occurred on Sunday night along Dahiru Road in Kurmin-Mashi and involved a boy identified only as Sadiq.

Preliminary findings, he said, suggest that the teenager was allegedly punished by his mother and stepfather over a dispute involving missing money.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the boy had reportedly been sent to withdraw money from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator before questions later arose about the transaction.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” Hassan said.

Residents of the community told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident had sparked widespread shock and grief.

Some witnesses alleged that neighbors and other community members attempted to intervene during the incident and appealed to the couple to exercise restraint.

Others said efforts were made to peacefully resolve the situation before it reportedly escalated.

The residents called for a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the teenager’s death and ensure justice is served.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their work, assuring that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
