JUST IN: Judge Threatens to Suspend Kanu’s Trial Indefinitely

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court has threatened to adjourn indefinitely the trial of the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Nyako stated that she would begin the trial when the defence was ready.

She revealed this following the request of Kanu’s lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor, that his client’s rights to a fair trial were being disrespected.

Ejimakor told the court that due to the accelerated hearing granted by the court, there is a need for his client to be well prepared for the same trial, but the facility where he is being kept isn’t making it easy for them.

He also accused the DSS of having hidden cameras around the meeting room where they were supposed to prepare for the said trial.

However, the prosecution lawyer, Awomolo urged the court to dismiss the application as the defense has not stated cogent reasons why the application should be allowed.

The trial judge, Justice Nyako adjourned to May 20 to rule on both applications before the court and ordered that the prosecution commence trial.

Nyako, however, stood down the matter for 10 minutes for the defense lawyers to have a quick meeting with Kanu.
