JUST IN: Agric Minister Blames Food Crisis In Nigeria On Smuggling

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has revealed that smuggling is one of the factors impacting negatively on food availability across the country.

Kyari who stated this on Tuesday 5th March 2024 while addressing members of the House of Representatives at the resumption of the policy debate series at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, said that the smuggling of foodstuff to other neighboring countries has affected the availability of food items in the country.

Meantime, also present in the hallowed chamber of the House are the Minister of State (Agriculture and Food Security), Sabi Abdullahi, and Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, among other top government functionaries.

It would be recalled that the Abbas Tajudeen-led 10th House in November 2023 unraveled the Sectoral Debate series, an initiative geared towards improving the constitutional oversight of the executive arm of government.
