England’s World Cup journey came to a painful end after Argentina staged a dramatic late comeback to secure a 2 to 1 victory in the semifinal, leaving Jude Bellingham and his teammates devastated.Â
The defeat denied the Three Lions a place in their first World Cup final since 1966 despite another impressive tournament from the Real Madrid midfielder.
Bellingham battled to cover his disappointment following the last whistle, The News Chronicle reports, noting the loss was hard to take. The England star said sorry to fans, saying he had hoped to help stop the nation’s long wait for World Cup glory but was sad after another near miss.

England coach Thomas Tuchel took accountability for the loss, admitting that his strategic change to a more defensive system let Argentina grab control of the game. He accepted responsibility for the result and maintained the decision did not yield the intended outcome.
Notwithstanding the setback, Tuchel is projected to lead until the 2028 European Championship. As England aims to close the competition on a high note, they will now focus on the third-place match against France.
