The Jigawa State Government has arrested seven teachers for allegedly engaging in examination malpractice during a statewide competency assessment involving more than 8,400 educators.
The assessment, organised by the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), is part of ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing teacher quality and restoring integrity in public schools. The arrested teachers have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
SUBEB Chairman Haruna Musa described the arrests as a strong warning to all educators, emphasizing that examination malpractice will not be tolerated.
He added that the exercise is intended to identify knowledge gaps among teachers and inform targeted training programmes.
