Communities in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State have been given an ultimatum by ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province) terrorists to vacate their homes or face severe consequences.
This warning has caused widespread panic among residents.
Abubakar Maisanya, a local resident, recounted the harrowing experience to reporters over the phone.
He explained that the terrorists had gathered a large number of residents and issued the ultimatum, on Thursday.
We were gathered this morning by the terror group and received the warning,” Maisanya said. “They said the deadline is Saturday, counting from today. If we don’t leave the area by Saturday, the situation will be bad.”
In response to the threat, many residents have already started fleeing. According to Maisanya, the fleeing residents are now divided into two groups. Some have taken refuge in Cross Kauwa, while others have fled to Monguno.
This latest ultimatum comes on the heels of a brutal attack by the terrorists on a group of fishermen in Tunbun Rogo, also under Kukawa Local Government.
In that attack, 31 people were killed. The victims’ families have been unable to recover the bodies due to the continued presence and aggression of the terrorists.
The entire community is currently in a state of panic, with many fearing for their lives and the safety of their families.
There have been urgent calls for the government and security agencies to intervene and protect the residents from further attacks.
The situation remains tense, and it is unclear what measures will be taken to safeguard the community.
However, the residents are hoping for a swift and decisive response to prevent more violence and ensure their safety.
