ISWAP Terrorists Finalizes Plan For a Radio Station in Borno

Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) is reportedly planning to launch an online radio station called “Radio Raeed” as part of its propaganda efforts.
The move, according to Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, is likely intended to attract more recruits from the North East.
Makama suggests that Radio Raeed will be located in Kangarwa and will serve as a supporter of the Islamic State, broadcasting weekly news propaganda summaries in Hausa, Arabic, and Kanuri languages.
He emphasizes that this development signals the insurgency’s adaptability in utilizing various propaganda channels to recruit new members.
In a post on his social media handle, Makama highlights the ongoing challenge authorities face in halting the insurgency’s recruitment efforts.
He noted the importance of countering online media propaganda used by terrorist groups to maintain visibility and attract new fighters.
Makama suggested that the continuous recruitment drive implied a steady influx of fighters into ISWAP’s ranks, supporting affiliated groups, and issuing directives for attacks.
Makama advocated for sustained efforts in Information Operations (INFO OPs) to combat terrorist propaganda by targeting and shutting down associated websites.
He believes that disrupting the network of affiliated group members is crucial in undermining the terrorist organization’s influence and reach.
“It becomes necessary to sustain effort in INFO OPs as well to bring down and disconnect associated notorious terrorist websites to bolster the network of affiliated group members,” he wrote on X.
