Today, Israeli fighter jets carried out an airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting a building where Hezbollah was said to store precision missiles.
At the same time, Israeli attacks in Gaza killed at least 38 Palestinians.
The Israeli government said the Beirut strike was necessary because the missiles in the warehouse were a serious threat to Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement:
“Israel will not allow Hezbollah to grow stronger and threaten it anywhere in Lebanon.”
The airstrike happened in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut, a place where Hezbollah is known to be strong.
Before attacking, Israel warned civilians to leave the area.
Lebanon’s Civil Defence said no one was killed or injured, but a fire broke out and buildings nearby were damaged.
People living near the site said the explosion reminded them of past wars.
“It brought back memories of the 2006 war,” one resident told reporters.
Military experts said Israel may have used the strike to watch how Hezbollah leaders react after warnings, a method called “pinging the system”.
In Gaza, health workers said 38 people have died in Israeli strikes since the morning.
Many of the victims are said to be civilians.
Gaza is already facing a serious food shortage, with aid agencies warning of famine.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian village near Ramallah, damaging homes and farms.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the strike in Beirut.
He called on the United States and France to pressure Israel to stop its actions, saying:
“Israel is making the region more dangerous.”
