The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the gruesome murder of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The victims were found dead at Oyesiku’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21. Her Lexus RX 330 SUV was also missing from the premises, raising suspicions of a robbery-homicide.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, June 25, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed that detectives swiftly launched an investigation and successfully recovered the stolen vehicle.
Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene was subjected to forensic analysis, providing crucial leads that helped investigators crack the case.
Acting on intelligence gathered during the probe, detectives arrested the prime suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, a former security guard to the deceased, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, on June 24, where he had been working as a labourer.
The suspect’s confession subsequently led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices — Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
According to the police commissioner, Philip confessed to masterminding the attack over grievances linked to his previous employment with the late broadcaster.
“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson’,” Ojajuni said.
Investigators revealed that the suspects first subdued and killed Adetayo, the residence’s security guard, before forcing their way into Oyesiku’s apartment, where they allegedly murdered her.
Police also recovered several items believed to have been used in the attack, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and a black pen.
Ojajuni assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
