Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has hinted that becoming Afrobeats’ first US dollar billionaire could be within reach, although he insists that amassing wealth is not his primary goal.
The artiste made the revelation during an interview on Capital XTRA, where he was asked whether he was on track to attain billionaire status.
Responding with humour, Mr Eazi suggested that he had already crossed the billion mark in Nigerian naira and other African currencies, before turning his attention to the US dollar benchmark.
“US dollars, you know, soon come. I’m not really looking for that, that’s not the target. But I see it; it’s coming. Anytime now,” he said.
Despite his confidence about reaching the milestone, the singer stressed that financial success is not the ultimate measure of his ambitions, pointing instead to creative independence and the freedom to run his businesses on his own terms.
Beyond music, Mr Eazi has built a portfolio of business interests spanning technology, ticketing and gaming. His ventures include investments in international technology and ticketing businesses, as well as betting-related partnerships through Choplife Gaming.
His growing business profile has also drawn comparisons with American rap mogul Jay-Z, who has combined a successful music career with major investments and entrepreneurial ventures.
Mr Eazi appeared comfortable with the comparison, drawing a playful parallel between their careers and personal lives, particularly their marriages to two high-profile women.
“Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr Eazi. Jay-Z has Beyoncé, I have Temi,” he joked, referring to his wife, actress Temi Otedola, the daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola.
