Nollywood actress Blessing Onwukwe has revealed why she enjoys playing villainous roles, saying the challenge and intensity of such characters inspired her performance in the hit Nollywood movie Monica.
Speaking exclusively with The News Chronicle’s Celebrity Connect, the actress who made her screen debut alongside Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji in the movie Bursting Out, said she is far more drawn to complex and dramatic characters than being seen as “the kind girl” on screen.
“I like to play the villain character. I think it’s more interesting, actually. I don’t really care about being liked or not. It’s easier to drive a villain character into people’s minds than just being kind. Anybody can be kind, and I’m generally a kind person in real life.”
Onwukwe added that villain roles offer deeper emotional layers and stronger dramatic appeal, stressing that audiences often connect more intensely with controversial characters.
While stressing that the villain role is simply more dramatic, more challenging, and far more entertaining to play, the actress said; “that character has nothing to do with me personally”.
