I didn’t wish the players “Merry Christmas” following a poor first half—Erik Ten Hag

Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag during his post-match interview said he didn’t wish the players Merry Christmas after they went down 2-0 before the 30th minute of their game against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

It was almost another disappointing game for United, who had a few of their legends in attendance following McGinn’s and Dendoncker strikes in the first half.

“I didn’t say Merry Christmas! I said keep believing. I said I wanted to see the team, from the first whistle to the final whistle, with spirit and belief to win that game. No matter what happens. At half-time, I repeated that message, and it was also justified as we created four or five really good chances but didn’t take them. Straight after half-time, another disappointment, and it tells the story of the season so far. We’ve had so many setbacks, but I see the character of this team.”

Manchester United’s resilience saw them overturn the game during the second half to win after scoring three goals through Gernacho’s brace in the 59th and 71st minutes respectively, and Rasmus Hojlund’s first Premier League goal since his mega arrival at Old Trafford came at the right moment after the Danish striker scored United’s winner in the 82nd minutes.
