Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed her desire to remarry, despite going through five failed marriages.
Speaking in a new interview with BBC News Yorùbá published on July 7, 2025, the 58-year-old actress said she once prayed for a husband at the Kaabah in Mecca, but now leaves her love life entirely in God’s hands.
“It is something I desire,” she said, “I even prayed about it when I visited the Kaabah in Mecca. But if God does not will it, then it is not by force.”
Wright, who has been married five times, said she still has an interest in marriage but does not see it as something that must happen at all costs.
Wright added that if a man treats her in a way she finds unacceptable, she would not remain in the marriage.
“I am human too,” she said. “If a man behaves in a way I do not agree with, I will leave.”
Wright also explained that she moved abroad mainly for the sake of her children, who have now grown up. She said becoming a mother influenced many of her decisions and that she chose to build her life in a way that supported her role as a parent.
“I shaped my life around raising my children. That became my priority,” she said.
While living abroad, Wright said she decided not to take on low-paying or physically demanding jobs. Instead, she chose to return to school to study Information Technology, focusing on IT Audit and Cybersecurity.
“At that time, the only thing I could count was money. I couldn’t even read music notes,” she said. “But when I moved abroad, I told myself I wouldn’t take on dirty jobs. I decided to go back to school.”
She said that living abroad requires effort and prayer, adding that she succeeded because she was determined.
Although she has been away from Nollywood for some time, Wright said she is now ready to return to acting. She revealed that she is working on new film projects and asked her fans to stay alert for her comeback.
She also noted that the industry has changed, especially with advancements in film equipment and technology.
“Things have moved forward. The tools people use now are very different,” she said.
Bukky Wright remains a prominent name in Nigerian cinema. With a career spanning over two decades and more than 100 film credits, including the 1999 classic Saworoide, she has built a reputation for strong performances in both Yoruba and English-language films.
