Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has firmly asserted his dominance in Kano’s political landscape, declaring that former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje cannot give him instructions.
The Kano governor, responding to backlash over his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisted he remains in full control as the party’s leader in the state.
Speaking to supporters, Yusuf dismissed claims of betrayal, arguing his exit from the NNPP was a calculated move to avoid a looming internal collapse.
“We raised the alarm early, but our warnings were ignored. If we hadn’t acted when we did, millions in Kano would have paid the price. Today, there is stability,” he said.
He turned the tables on critics, accusing some NNPP defectors of hypocrisy.
“They shout betrayal, but did they consult Kwankwasiyya members before jumping ship? Who truly betrayed whom?” he fired.
Yusuf also rejected suggestions that his move to the APC placed him under Ganduje’s shadow, instead projecting strength and political expansion.
“From standing alone, I am now among over 31 governors. That is progress, not retreat,” he declared.
Drawing a clear line, the governor stressed that while he respects Ganduje, authority in Kano rests squarely with him.
“There is mutual respect, yes, but no one dictates to me. I am the leader,” Yusuf said.
