The Kano State Hisbah Board, which is responsible for enforcing Islamic law, has conducted operations resulting in the seizure of 8,600 bottles of beer and the arrest of 15 women for alleged prostitution.

In the first incident, the Hisbah officers intercepted a van carrying bottles of beer along the Kano-Kaduna expressway. The driver attempted to evade arrest, but the Hisbah operatives apprehended him.

Selling and consuming alcohol is prohibited in Kano State, under Islamic law, hence the confiscation of alcoholic drinks.

The driver is expected to face legal proceedings.

In the second operation, the Hisbah officers targeted areas within Kano City where prostitution activities were reportedly taking place.

Fifteen women were arrested on charges of engaging in prostitution. Some of these women had allegedly been previously arrested and charged but continued engaging in the illegal activity.

The Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, emphasized the need for public cooperation in reporting such activities to help maintain law and order in the state.
