Hisbah arrests 52 tricycle riders over ‘immoral haircuts’ in Kano

—

The Kano State Hisbah Board recently apprehended a total of 52 tricycle riders, commonly known as Yan Adaidaita Sahu, in Kano city.

The charges against them ranged from what authorities deemed as “immoral haircuts” to the sale of illegal drugs and substances.

Additionally, they were accused of mixing individuals of the opposite gender in their tricycles.

According to a report, the Hisbah command conducted the operation, named “Operation Kau da Badala,” to combat various immoral activities such as prostitution, drug abuse, and the sale and consumption of alcohol in Kano state.

The tricycle riders were apprehended from different parts of the city and subsequently taken to the Hisbah Board’s headquarters.

During their time at the headquarters, the riders received admonishments from officials before being released.

Sheikh Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, addressed the 52 individuals, urging them to serve as positive representatives of Islam by avoiding social vices.

The alleged offenses of the tricycle riders, as outlined by Sheikh Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, included engaging in “immoral haircuts,” riding around in only shorts, displaying objectionable posters on their vehicles, mixing unrelated men and women, selling illegal drugs, and transporting women to locations where they participate in immoral activities.

“As Muslims, we cannot condone such behavior and activities among the tricycle riders. Hence, we brought you here to counsel you on the negative implications of these actions on our religion and culture as the people of Kano,” stated Sheikh Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen during the address.
