American actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36.
Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death in a statement issued on behalf of the family, while appealing for privacy as they mourn the loss.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” he said, describing the actress as “an incredible light and a force of nature” who brought love and joy to those around her and millions of fans.
The family did not disclose the cause of death. Reports said circumstances surrounding her death were under investigation.
Panettiere began her acting career as a child and went on to establish herself across television, film and voice acting.
She gained international recognition as Claire Bennet, the cheerleader with superpowers, in the hit television series Heroes. She later starred as Juliette Barnes in the musical drama series Nashville, earning two Golden Globe nominations for the role.
Her film credits included Remember the Titans, Raising Helen, Ice Princess and Scream 4. She also reprised her role as Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise.
Beyond acting, Panettiere was known for speaking openly about her personal struggles, including postpartum depression, addiction, recovery, trauma and domestic abuse.
Earlier in 2026, she released her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she reflected on her life and experiences away from the public spotlight.
Panettiere had also spoken publicly about the sudden death of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died in February 2023 at the age of 28.
Her death marks the loss of a performer who began working in the entertainment industry as a child and successfully transitioned into prominent adult roles.
Panettiere is survived by her daughter, Kaya, and her parents.
