Halima Abubakar Sues AGN President Emeka Rollas, Demands N30bn for Defamation

Embattled Nollywood star Halima Abubakar has taken legal action against Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), following her suspension from the Guild.

The actress is seeking N30 billion in damages after Rollas publicly announced her suspension on his social media, which she claims has severely damaged her reputation.

Halima was initially suspended over accusations of slandering Nollywood, but she fired back, stating that she was never informed or given a chance to address the allegations before the suspension was made public.

In a letter dated October 20, 2024, from her legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, Halima accused Rollas of intentionally damaging her image.

The letter reads, “Our client has been battling serious health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this sensitive period during her recovery to spread a false narrative. This has caused her significant emotional distress and tarnished her reputation.”

Her legal team demanded that the defamatory post be immediately taken down from Rollas’ Instagram page, along with a public apology. They also requested N30 billion in compensation for the harm done to her reputation.

The letter ends with a firm warning: if these demands are not met within seven days, they will take further legal steps.
