Gunmen Murder Anambra Community PG, Soludo Vows to Apprehend Perpetrators

Unknown persons over the weekend allegedly broke into the house of the President-General of Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Silas Onyima, and killed him.

It was gathered that the hoodlums shot him right in the bathroom while he was taking his bath.

The incident, according to a source, threw the community into panic, forcing residents to desert major roads, and the Eke market in the community, which used to bubble with activities, was also scanty.

The murder has once again raised concerns over the way Presidents-General of communities in the state were being murdered.

Recall that the President General of Obosi in the same local government was gruesomely murdered by gunmen last year, leading to public outcry especially from the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Solud, has vowed to see to it that the hoodlums who murdered the Umuoji PG are made to face the full wrath of the law.

A statement on his behalf, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, said the governor received the news with deep concern and immense sadness.

Condemning the dastardly act, Soludo on behalf of the people of Anambra State, the state government, unreservedly condemned the murder, which it described, as heinous act of unprovoked violence.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Onyima, the Umuoji community, and the entire Idemili North Local Government Area.

“This senseless killing represents an affront to the peace and security we are collectively working to build in Anambra State, and Governor Soludo has vowed to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to justice.

“Governor Soludo has directed the State security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to apprehend the culprits and ensure swift prosecution of those responsible to deter future recurrences.

“Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government remains fully committed to the security of lives and property in the state and will not be deterred by the acts of criminals who seek to disrupt the peace and progress of our land.

“We call on all Anambra residents to remain calm and law-abiding as we continue to work together with security agencies to keep the perpetrators of violent crimes away from our communities and state,” the statement said.
