Fire engulfs residence of FCT Minister of State in Abuja

On Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out at the private residence of Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeji Close, Asokoro.

Unfortunately, the fire caused extensive damage, consuming everything in its path on the upper floor of the house.

This included household items such as furniture, appliances like air conditioners, beds, clothing, important documents, certificates, and even valuable jewelry.

It’s reported that the fire service in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) responded slowly to the incident, resulting in the inability to salvage any belongings from the house.

While there hasn’t been an official statement regarding the cause of the fire, initial investigations by the FCT fire service suggest that it may have been caused by an electrical fault in one of the children’s rooms.

Mr. Austine Elemue, the media aide to the minister, confirmed the incident and mentioned that investigations into the cause are ongoing.

The loss incurred from the fire is significant, not just in terms of material possessions but also in the disruption it has caused to the minister’s personal life.

Losing cherished belongings and important documents can be emotionally distressing, and the minister and her family will likely need support and assistance during this challenging time.

Efforts to rebuild and recover from such a devastating event will require coordination from various stakeholders, including government agencies, insurance providers, and the local community.

It’s essential for measures to be put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future, such as ensuring that electrical systems are regularly inspected and maintained to prevent faults that could lead to fires.
