Gunmen Kidnap 15 NYSC Members on Kogi Road, Driver Injured

Fifteen members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have reportedly been abducted by gunmen while travelling from the Permanent Orientation Camp in Bayelsa State to Abuja.

The corps members, who are part of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II, were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday along the Ofu/Itobe–Onicha-Igo axis in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to a relative of one of the victims who spoke with newsmen, the corps members were travelling in a Peace Mass Transit bus and another yellow Toyota bus marked “564” when the attackers intercepted the vehicles.

The relative identified his brother, Ayodele David, as one of the abducted corps members, adding that the family was alerted to the incident by Adeji Joshua, a police officer with the Kogi State Police Command.

Joshua reportedly confirmed the incident, saying 15 passengers were taken by the abductors, while the driver of the Peace Mass Transit bus was left behind after sustaining serious injuries.

He said the attackers reportedly spoke Fulfulde, Hausa and English, although their identities had yet to be established.

According to the police officer, two buses were involved in the incident. Passengers in the second vehicle were reportedly allowed to leave because some were travelling with babies, while four passengers were abducted from the vehicle.

A video from the scene also reportedly showed the attackers shooting at the victims before taking them away.

The incident occurred shortly after the corps members completed their orientation camp exercises in Bayelsa State on Wednesday.

Families of the abducted corps members are now anxiously awaiting information on their whereabouts and safety.
