President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has criticised NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as someone who seeks public sympathy despite being at fault.
Ajayi urged Obi to retract what he called a deliberate misrepresentation of an incident involving his vehicle at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Obi had alleged that airport officials acted improperly after his vehicle was clamped over what he described as a wrongful parking issue. He claimed the action was part of efforts to frustrate him.
However, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, dismissed the allegation, insisting that Obi’s driver violated airport parking regulations. The minister called on the former Anambra State governor to publicly apologise to airport authorities and pay a N25,000 parking violation fine.
Keyamo said an internal investigation, supported by CCTV footage, revealed that Obi arrived at the domestic terminal on July 4, 2026, at about 8:28 p.m. in a vehicle driven by a police officer.
According to the minister, after dropping Obi and two other passengers, the police driver left the vehicle unattended in a designated drop-off zone while entering the terminal, an action he said contravened airport regulations.
Reacting in a post on X, Ajayi said, “Mr. Peter Obi is a typical example of the Yoruba saying, ‘asunkun ro ejo’—a guilty person who cries the loudest to gain sympathy.
“Now that the Minister of Aviation has released the CCTV footage and a comprehensive statement explaining what transpired at the airport, I hope Mr. Obi will be honourable enough to recant the deliberate mischaracterisation of his experience.”
