The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the explosion that occurred in parts of Maiduguri metropolis on Monday evening, describing the attack as cruel and cowardly.

Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj, said the incident was a despicable act targeting innocent residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the attack and extended his condolences to the families of the victims and those injured.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” Zulum said.

The governor noted that the recent rise in attacks could be linked to ongoing military offensives against insurgents hiding in the Sambisa Forest and other enclaves.

He, however, assured residents that the military and other security agencies are in control of the situation and have taken necessary measures to prevent further security breaches in Maiduguri and across the state.

Zulum urged residents to remain calm, continue with their normal activities, and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
