Governor Zulum Promises Construction of Additional Housing for UNIMAID Professors and Staff

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has revealed plans to donate bungalow flats to serving and retiring professors of the university
He made this announcement on Saturday during a public lecture honoring the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba.

Additionally, he expressed intentions to construct more housing estates for university staff, while also addressing the institution’s electricity and water supply issues.
During the event, Governor Zulum directed the university authorities to nominate individuals who would collaborate with the state government to identify and tackle the university’s major challenges.
He praised Professor Shugaba’s leadership and the progress made in infrastructure development and academic programs despite the university’s challenges.
In the lecture titled “Leadership Challenges in Nigerian Universities,” Professor Junrilla Dahiru Amin discussed the history and growth of Nigerian universities, focusing on issues such as underfunding, financial mismanagement, student and staff welfare, and quality assurance in academic studies and research.
Professor Amin highlighted the challenges of university management, including resource management, staff and student welfare, security, politics, and social activities.
He advocated for the integration of computer-driven studies and social media technology to empower youths with new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
Additionally, he emphasized responsible social media usage and the need for regulatory bodies to manage and control social media platforms to prevent abuse.
Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, the chairman of the occasion, prayed for the peace, unity, and stability of the university, urging staff and lecturers to continue fostering a supportive environment for students.
