Governor Zulum Advocates Use of Artificial Intelligence, Drones to Combat Crime

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has called for a major shift in Nigeria’s security architecture, urging the adoption of advanced technologies to tackle rising insecurity.

Speaking at the Kogi Security Summit in Abuja on Tuesday evening, Zulum said traditional methods alone are no longer sufficient to combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.

He advocated the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI), surveillance drones, biometric systems, and predictive analytics to prevent attacks before they occur.

The governor emphasized that security should not rest solely on government agencies, urging citizens to actively participate in intelligence gathering and community policing.

Zulum also highlighted the need to address root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and climate challenges, warning that failure to tackle these issues would continue to fuel criminal activities.

He stressed that lasting peace and development can only be achieved through a combination of modern security strategies and socio-economic reforms.

Zulum was accompanied to the event by Hon. Engr Bukar Talba, representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai Federal Constituency.
