Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have launched an investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over alleged possession and use of a forged seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Anoruo, who reportedly runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, by operatives of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 in Ikoyi.
The case began after Anoruo submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, to the EFCC on behalf of his clients, alleging misconduct by the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.
However, investigations by the anti-graft agency revealed that both the petition and a subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5, 2026, carried a forged NBA seal.
During interrogation, the 55-year-old suspect reportedly confessed to obtaining the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
He also claimed that although he earned a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement to practice law in Nigeria.
The EFCC said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
