Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming education in Sokoto State on Tuesday.
During a meeting with the governing board of Usmanu Danfodio University at the Government House in Sokoto, the Governor emphasized that education, as the foundation of any society’s progress, is a top priority under his administration.
He highlighted that 25% of the state’s budget has been allocated to the education sector as part of his nine-point agenda, underscoring the sector’s importance.
Governor Aliyu expressed his vision to nurture a generation of well-educated and highly skilled youth in the state.
As an alumnus of Usmanu Danfodio University, the Governor assured the institution of continued support from his administration to strengthen its position as a leading academic institution in Nigeria.
He also congratulated the university’s governing board on their recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu and urged them to increase admission opportunities for Sokoto State indigenes, especially in medicine and science-related fields.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Dr. A.A. Yusuf Sokoto praised the Governor for his dedication to education since assuming office. He pledged the board’s support in advancing the state’s educational goals.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Garba, outlined the institution’s remarkable achievements in research, which have earned it global recognition.
He revealed that the university’s hospital is set to conduct its first kidney transplant in the coming weeks and invited the Governor to witness this historic milestone.
