Gov. Zulum offers Christmas transportation for travelers to the South

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, for the fourth time since 2020, approved free transportation for 630 families who plan to travel to their respective states for Christmas.

This initiative aims to alleviate the impact of current hardships resulting from subsidy removal.

The governor’s support extends to the less privileged who may struggle to afford transportation costs, fostering peaceful coexistence among non-indigenous groups.

Emmanuel Egwudike, Coordinator of Ohanaeze All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Group, praised Governor Zulum for not only providing free transportation but also offering financial assistance to widows for Christmas celebrations.

This generous act has been a recurring theme since 2020, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to supporting non-indigenous communities and providing relief to widows during the holiday season.

Mr. Egwudike emphasized the significance of Governor Zulum’s gesture, highlighting the economic challenges, subsidy removal, and increased transportation costs that many families face.

Over 630 families are benefiting from this initiative, allowing them to celebrate Christmas in their home states.

He called on other governors to emulate Zulum’s example, emphasizing that such actions strengthen unity within the state.

Abraham Kaanti, President of the Tiv Community in the state, praised the governor’s love for the downtrodden and less privileged, particularly during a time when many had lost hope of traveling home for the festivities.

Chief Saka Ganiyu Abiodun, representing the Yoruba Constituency, expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for his compassionate approach, ensuring that the selected beneficiaries were those who could not afford the cost of traveling home.

Pharm Napoleon Egbonu, Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Borno State, commended the governor for directly impacting the downtrodden with this gesture. He highlighted the ongoing nature of this program, spanning five years, and the positive reception from the people.

The leader of the Eggon Community in Borno, who has lived in the state for over 40 years, acknowledged the timeliness of Governor Zulum’s gesture amid the prevailing economic hardships faced by the people.

Overall, the governor’s consistent efforts to support marginalized communities and alleviate the burdens of the less privileged have garnered appreciation and goodwill across various ethnic groups in the state.
