Former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has been chosen to chair the inaugural International Africa Day celebration set for May 25, 2024.
The event, hosted by The Pan African Dialogue Institute (TPADI), marks Nigeria’s first edition to honor Africa’s ongoing battle against neocolonialism, exploitation, and challenges.
Dr. Effiong Joseph Udo, President of TPADI, emphasized the significance of the Africa Day celebration in raising awareness among Africans, urging self-love, and resisting Western neocolonialism.
An International Conference on ‘Dialogue and Pan Africanism’ will be held from May 23 to 26, 2024, in conjunction with the University of Uyo’s Centre for Deep Dialogue and Critical Thinking, Directorate of International Programs, and various faculties.
Dr. Udo anticipates that the celebration and institute launch will empower Nigeria to uphold the intellectual aspects of Pan Africanism and play a crucial role in promoting unity, self-determination, and cultural revival without relying on Western influence.
The ceremony at the University of Uyo will feature speeches, cultural displays, and the laying of the institute’s foundation by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
Distinguished guests, including former President Jonathan, Vice President of Colombia, Her Excellency Francia Marguez, and other international dignitaries, are expected to attend.
TPADI is collaborating with the Nigerian Federal Government and Akwa Ibom State Government to ensure the successful hosting of this global event, aiming to advance the ideals of unity, dignity, and prosperity for African people worldwide.
