Gombe Flood Disaster: Three Feared Dead, 1,838 Houses destroyed

Three persons have been confirmed dead following a flood disaster that ravaged some parts of Gombe State. The Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Abdullahi Abdullahi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Gombe State.

Abdullahi, revealed that against the prediction in 2023 Flood Outlook, highlighting that three Local Governments in the state were prone to flooding, Akko, Funakaye, Balanga, Gombe, Nafada, Kaltungo, Shongom, and Yamaltu/Deba were some of the areas worst-hit by the flood.

According to the Secretary, the disaster also killed seven animals and destroyed 1,838 houses and 257 farmlands between May and October 2023. He stressed that the incident has caused untold hardship on residents of the affected areas and that the state government is committed to ensuring the safety of residents in and around the affected areas.

The SEMA Head commended the Gombe State Government for the provision of relieved materials to the affected persons adding that the Gombe State Government would put more frantic efforts in averting and arresting a recurrence of such form of natural disaster.
