Global leaders and development partners have mobilised more than $3 billion in international financing, alongside about $471 billion in domestic commitments from more than 50 partner countries to support education worldwide.
The commitments were announced at the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Multiply Possibility High-Level Pledging Event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and co-hosted by Nigeria and Italy.
Nigeria was represented by the Minister of Education, who highlighted Vice President Kashim Shettima’s participation and support for the high-level gathering.
The Nigerian delegation described the mobilisation as a significant milestone for global education, stressing that the commitments go beyond financial contributions to reaffirm the importance of education to human capital development, economic transformation, social mobility and national prosperity.
Under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria has continued to increase investment in education while strengthening international partnerships aimed at expanding access, improving learning outcomes and building resilient education systems.

Officials, however, stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on implementation, with the focus now shifting towards translating financial commitments into concrete programmes and improved learning opportunities, particularly for children and young people at risk of being left behind.
Nigeria reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with Italy, the GPE, governments, development partners, the private sector and civil society organisations to turn the commitments into measurable and sustainable progress for the next generation.
