Funke Akindele’s, SHE Must Be Obeyed, debuts today exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
The movie’s premiere was held on Wednesday night at the IMAX Cinema, in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.
It was produced and directed by Funke Akindele and her ex-husband, JJC Skillz, under SceneOne Production. The series stars top-rated actors including Funke Akindele, Lateef Adedimeji, Nancy Isime, Akah Anani, Patience Ozokwo, Mike Ezuronye, and Rachael Okonkwo, amongst others. Nigerian Afropop singer, Waje and former BBNaija star Vee joined the ensemble.
SHE Must Be Obeyed follows the life of three successful music stars who are rivals. The three will do anything to outshine one another and protect their place at the top. Funke Akindele plays the lead role, Siyanbola Adewale, a self-absorbed diva who will do anything to get her way.
Speaking to Premium Times, Funke Akindele said of the series, “[The series] centers on the competition in the music industry, and we decided to walk on Afrobeat because Afrobeat is indigenous to Nigeria and Africa. In She Must Be Obeyed, you get to see competition, and you get to see drama, fashion, and music.’’
“[Young up-and-coming talents] are starving to be seen and want to showcase their talent,” she added.
“Unfortunately, they do not study their contract, get a lawyer to read it, or get an experienced family to educate them. All these things affect them, and at the end of the day, they get to sign the wrong contract.”
The five-episode series will debut exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, 29 September.
