FRSC Flag-off of 2024 Ember Months Safety Campaign

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) inaugurated the 2024 Ember Months Sensitisation Campaign on October 30, 2024.

The event was launched with a Breakfast and Townhall Meeting held at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Abuja, in collaboration with BusinessDay Newspaper.

Themed “Smart Road Infrastructure and Commuters’ Rights to Safe Journeys,” the event gathered critical stakeholders from both private and public sectors, aiming to raise awareness of road safety, particularly during the high-traffic Ember Months.

Prominent attendees included the Publisher and CEO of BusinessDay Media, Mr. Frank Aigbogun; the Representative of the Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Olumbe Akinkugbe; the Representative of the Inspector General of Police, AIG Beneth Igwe; and Mr. Tong Shaka Joel, who represented the Vice Chairman and CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

The event featured two engaging panel discussions focused on issues of road safety and commuter rights.

The first panel, titled “Harnessing Smart Infrastructure to Revolutionise Road Safety: Practical Applications and Future Directions,” explored the role of advanced technologies and smart infrastructure in creating safer roads and reducing accident rates.

Panelists discussed how innovations like smart traffic systems, real-time road monitoring, and automated emergency response could greatly enhance safety standards across Nigerian roads.

The second panel, “Activating Commuters’ Right to Speak Up,” addressed the importance of empowering commuters to report unsafe driving practices, poorly maintained roads, and other hazards they encounter.

Panelists encouraged attendees to foster a culture of accountability and active involvement in road safety.

The discussions attracted lively contributions from attendees, with speakers sharing valuable insights on both topics.

The Breakfast/Townhall Meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and everyday road users in building safer, more efficient transportation systems for Nigeria.
